Letters as numbers · an interactive exploration
Every Hebrew letter has a numeric value; every word has a sum. Type a word to see its value and everything that shares it — or type a number and work backwards.
Standard gematria (mispar hechrechi) assigns א=1 through י=10, then counts by tens to צ=90 and by hundreds to ת=400; a word's value is the sum of its letters, and final letter forms count the same as their base forms. The variants shown: with finals gives ך–ץ the values 500–900; ordinal numbers the letters 1–22; reduced drops zeros (י=1, ק=1). Two words sharing a value is the starting point of centuries of interpretive play — and, as the list below any value shows, such coincidences are abundant by construction: with thousands of words and only a few hundred common values, vast numbers of matches are guaranteed.
